PeopleMichael Goldsmith has more than three decades of travel industry, destination marketing, hospitality, airline, management and global travel industry experience. He began his career in 1985 as a coordinator for Group Travel Specialists in Tucson, Arizona, where responsibilities included sales, marketing, housing, transportation, logistics and operations for individual and group travel to resort destinations in the United States and Mexico.
After graduating from the University of Arizona, he worked at the Boulders Resort in Carefree, Arizona, before joining America West Airlines as a customer service representative. That role included everything from airport passenger service functions to in-flight service in Phoenix, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1993, he joined the leisure sales team at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, before being promoted to convention sales. In that capacity, he was responsible for selling meetings and conventions to association and corporate travel buyers at the 2,100 room casino hotel complex. The Mirage recruited Michael In 1997, where he was charged with selling the 3,000-room luxury gaming and entertainment resort to domestic and international corporate and incentive group travel buyers. Joining the pre-opening team at the Aladdin in 1999, Michael was part of the core team responsible for opening the 2,500-room gaming, retail and entertainment resort complex. In 2000, he joined the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), where he rose to the role of Vice President of Marketing. During his tenure at the LVCVA, he occupied numerous roles, including oversight of the authority’s Global Representative Offices, International Sales, International Public Relations, Digital Engagement, Air Service Development, Sports Marketing and Special Events, Convention Sales, Leisure Sales and Domestic Regional Offices. In 2019, Michael founded Magellan Marketing, a dynamic agency dedicated to brand building, tourism marketing, business development, strategic planning and public relations for tourism and lifestyle brands. He has been a featured speaker and panelist at international travel industry conferences in Asia, North America and the Middle East, and is active in many industry organizations, most recently serving on the International Board of Directors for the Pacific Asia Travel Association, the Global Development Committee for Brand USA and the Global Leadership Committee for Destinations International.
